Forum Employees Celebrate Apprenticeship Training Success

14 employees from Forum Packaging Ltd, Horncastle have successfully completed their Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance Level 2 in conjunction with DC Training and Development Services Limited in Doncaster.

Forum Packaging, who is renowned throughout the paper sack industry for its award winning print capabilities and manufactures all types of paper sacks and preprinted material, recently gave the opportunity for its employees in the Print and Conversion departments to enhance their skills with the one year apprenticeship course.

The qualification is aimed at people who work in a factory based environment manufacturing products and all 14 employees who signed up to the course came away with achievements in the following components:

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Manufacturing Operations
• EAL level 2 Award in Industrial Environment Awareness
• EAL level 2 Award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities
• EAL Functional Skills Qualifications in English and Mathematics at Level 1

Jess Kendall, DC Training’s Business Development Support Officer said, “The Improving Operational Performance Apprenticeship is an ideal course for anyone in the Manufacturing sector. It provides the learner with work based knowledge that they can apply to their daily job duties. It also gives the learners an opportunity to refresh their Health and Safety, Maths and English knowledge which are all key elements to personal and working life”.

The qualification covered areas such as preparing for manufacturing operations, manufacturing products using combined manufacturing operations, controlling manufacturing operations, analysing results of inspection and confirming quality of production, and effective team working. Candidates also had to understand in an industrial environment; health and safety, how to communicate, working effectively and their rights and responsibilities for health, safety and employment.

Keith Lyall, NVQ Assessor at DC Training said, “Learners demonstrated a keen interest in all areas to be covered and they felt that the programme has updated them with their main activities and work duties. They worked really well and found the workbooks to be beneficial in helping them with different aspects of the course”.

The apprenticeship course also included a component that allowed for each delegate to gain their FLT licence, Jess Kendall said, ‘We were also able to offer FLT training and licences along with the qualification which helped the learners progress through work and embed various aspects of the course into it. As well as the learners benefiting from the course, it also gives the employers an opportunity to assess their staff’s knowledge of the job and working environment, ensuring they are working to the correct legislations.’’

Following the success of the qualification further 8 employees have signed up for the above course and will hopefully enjoy the same success as the others in 2017.
